About ‚Old‘ Zechhaus

The building at Kirchenplatz 1 ranks among the oldest property in Gumpoldskirchen preserved in its original architectural style. First mentioned in a document from 1549, it was used for storing wines and served the „Zeche“, e.g. the guilds, as a meeting place. Later the serving of wine was added. In 1905 the winery house was taken over by the Krug family. We have been serving guests here since 1970. And even now our wine tavern captivates with its especially diverse ambience.

Austrian cuisine at its best

At Altes Zechhaus you can truly enjoy the pleasures of life. Here we offer our guests traditional wine tavern culture at a sophisticated level. Typical delicacies meet up with Austrian classics; a wide selection of fish and meat dishes is joined by vegetarian specialities and glorious desserts. In addition, there are seasonal highlights, for example when it is time for asparagus, chanterelles, strawberries, porcini mushrooms, venison, or St. Martin’s goose. It is not without reason that we may call ourselves a TOP wine tavern.

Only the best ingredients

Regarding grape cultivation, and likewise for the wine tavern, we always put particular emphasis on high quality. This begins with the ingredients, which come exclusively from the local region or from the best Austrian producers. We obtain organic leg ham from Thum, Vulcano ham from Fleischmanufaktur Auersbach, beef from Pöllau, pork from the Weinviertel region, and Heumilchkäse and mountain cheese from the Paznautal Valley.

Escape everyday life and enter into enjoyment!

Altes Zechhaus will captivate you with its variety of special places. You can take a seat in the old vaulted cellar from the 16th century, enjoy the historic ambience in the Gothic loft or the cosy atmosphere in the sitting room. When the weather is good, the selection is even larger, with the addition of the shady courtyard and the freshly renovated sun terrace. Visit us and enjoy life with a delicious meal and a good glass of wine from KRUG.
